Forester Pass South Side Panorama - John Muir Trail
Panorama of hikers on the the S side cliff face catwalk trail coming down from Forester Pass. Looking E from the switchbacks as they begin winding down left of frame from the notch of the pass upper left, and cross the chute directly below the notch, (requiring a snow traverse most early seasons), to traverse the sheer cliff at center, before switchbacking down to the unamed lakes below. This section demonstrates some of the most amazing trail construction on the trail, with 10-15 foot dry stacked stone walls supporting the trail carved into almost vertical cliff. Rounded Caltech Peak at right, pointy Junction Peak at center, the wall of Diamond Mesa running right from it across center, with Tawny Point and Bighorn Plateau peeking from it's right end, and Tyndall Creek in front below draining to the Kern Canyon just n front of the Kern and Kaweah ranges on the horizon. California, Sierra Nevada Mountains, Sequoia National Park, Forester Pass. John Muir Trail Mile 190.
