Eastern Sierra Crest Sunrise from Independence
Looking W at sunrise alpenglow on the Eastern Sierra Crest from Independence. Onion Valley is to the right of the high pointy peak just above the orange pylons to far right. Onion Valley Road is just visible winding below and up to the trailhead below Kearsarge Pass. Whitney Portal is to the right of the pointy little white peak to the far left. Due to our low view angle, Mt Whitney, set farther back down the Whitney Portal valley, does not appear the tallest. It might be just barely visible peaking behind. The highest appearing peak from this location, at center, is Mt Williamson. California, Sierra Nevada Mountains, Owens Valley, Independence. Off the John Muir Trail near Mile 220.
